Pancake day is also known as Shrove Tuesday and it occurs every year 7 weeks before Easter.
Lets enjoy pancake day filled with activities and pancakes! Here are some ideas..
Activity 1 – Role Play
- Mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Small frying pan
- Toy eggs or ping pong balls in egg box
- Yellow ,material cut into circles
- Milk bottle
- Flour container
- Margarine container
- Plates, spoons, forks
Encourage the children to make their own pancakes.
Activity 2 – Painting
- Cut out circles out of paper the size of a fry pan
- Place the circles in the frying pan
- Add some coloured paint
- Put in 1,2 or 3 balls
- Encourage the children to pick up the pan and gently move it back and forth
- Take out the balls when the child has finished
- display their very own painted pancake
Activity 3 – Cooking
Gather together the ingredient with the children
- 100g plain flour
- 2 large eggs
- 300ml milk
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil extra for the frying pan
- Then choose what topping you want
- Lemon, Sugar, Banana, Strawberries, Kiwi, Ice-cream
Making the pancakes
Encourage the children to do these next parts
- Cut up the fruits (Encourage the children to do this)
- Make the pancake mix (Encourage the children to do this)
- Put a little oil into the frying pan and wait for it to heat up some.
- Add the mix then cook evenly on both sides until golden brown
- Place the pancakes on a plate
- Children to add their selected toppings
- Now enjoy
